5 February: Online Foundation Course in EIA application deadline
IAIA is offering a 12-week online Foundation Course in EIA that will run 12 February through 4 May 2018. Applications for the course are due 5 February. The Foundation Course in EIA is the first in a planned series of online courses as part of IAIA’s Professional Development Program (PDP). It is designed for early-career professionals with some EIA experience and covers the basic principles and objectives of EIA, its core concepts and methods, and the fundamentals of EIA review processes and study management. The course adopts a comprehensive definition of “environment” to include the physical, biological, resource use, social, cultural, health and economic dimensions of the project environment. Each course participant also receives personal support from an experienced IAIA trainer, especially through several online video conferences. The course should take about 20-30 hours to complete, and the cost is US$550.

7 February: Innovation Grants deadline
Innovation Grants are a competitive source of funds provided by the IAIA Board to encourage members, Sections, Branches and Affiliates to undertake innovative projects to advance the strategic direction of IAIA. The Board has provided for a small number of grant projects (3-5) each year, depending on available funds, that would move IAIA forward in one or more desirable directions, e.g., help to grow the organization’s membership, influence and involvement, educational products/services, finances and activities.

15 February: HIA webinar
Upcoming webinar: HIA of a Night Time Economy
IAIA member Liz Green will be presenting a webinar on 15 February: “Health, well-being and gender impacts: HIA of a Night Time Economy Framework.” This is an extension of the presentation she gave on the topic at IAIA17 last year. Using a Welsh case study, Liz will show how HIA has added value to the Night Time Economy (NTE), discuss stakeholder perspectives and recommendations, and more.
