Job Description:

Successful candidate should have experience in Environmental, Risk and Social Governance (ESG) and/or Social, Health, Environmental, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) management with knowledge of international Environmental, Risk and Social Responsibility Management standards preferably in the Food Processing, Fish Processing and Aquaculture environment. The ESM will be responsible for development and implementation of an Environmental Social Management System (ESMS) for the Group and affiliated companies. The following aspects of the position will apply:

  • Developing overarching policies and framework procedures (environmental, social, CSI, stakeholder engagement etc)
  • Review and help update environmental, risk and social policies plus environmental and social management plans at affiliate company level
  • Support Group Companies to attain environmental certifications
  • Keep affiliate companies informed of ongoing changes in legislation and new requirements for their operations
  • Support the affiliate companies in negotiations with regulators about permits and licenses
  • Provide training in international environmental and social performance standards
  • Lead internal environmental, health; risk, quality and social audits
  • Be responsible across the group for ongoing environmental and social reporting in the company 

Qualifications, experience and requirements:

  • BA/BSc (Hons) degree or higher in the ESM or related field
  • Preference to candidates with experience in the Environmental, Risk and Social Management field
  • Good understanding of international Environment, Risk and Social Performance Standards
  • Good understanding of at least the Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998) ; National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act No. 24 of 2008); National Environmental Management: Waste Act  (Act No. 59 of 2008); National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (Act No. 39 of 2004); National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998)
  • Strong quality control, analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Good understanding of human resources, health & safety and sustainability principles
  • The ability to communicate with industry stakeholders, communities and governmental structures
  • Preference will be given to Previously Disadvantage Individuals
