Job description:
Kongiwe is seeking an experienced Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to lead and manage Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for large-scale projects in the mineral resources and renewable energy sectors. This role requires balancing daily environmental assessments with providing strategic guidance to ensure sustainable project development. The ideal candidate will use their expertise to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental and social risks, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting long-term stewardship.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead ESIA projects in South Africa and internationally.
- Define and articulate environmental impacts independently.
- Consult with clients and authorities.
- Manage and coordinate specialists, ensuring quality reviews of reports.
- Lead tender and proposal compilation.
- Source and market project leads.
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams, delivering ESIA projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with environmental and social requirements.
- Maintain relationships with stakeholders, ensuring communication and collaboration.
- Provide strategic input on environmental policies and sustainability strategies.
- Assess and manage environmental, social, and economic risks across projects.
- Ensure compliance with local, regional, and international environmental laws, including NEMA and IFC Performance Standards.
- Mentor junior EAPs and project staff, ensuring high-quality work.
- Demonstrate strong commercial and project management skills.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
- Minimum 5 years proven EIA experience in a lead role.
- EAPASA Registration (this is a fixed requirement).
- Excellent working knowledge of environmental legislation as it relates to EIA and other environmental regulatory processes.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- The ability to work in a team and independently.
- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, as trouble shooting is at the core of our service offering.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure on multiple projects.
- The ability to confidently liaise with clients and work strategically within multidisciplinary professional teams.
