Call for Nominations to the IAIAsa National Executive Committee: Period 2026/2027

As we approach the end of the IAIAsa financial year (28 Feb 2026), we need to get the election process underway for a new National Executive Committee (NEC) to serve the organisation for the following year (two year term). The NEC would like to finalise the election process by the end of 2025.

The 2025/2026 NEC currently comprises:

Please note that Branch chair and committee positions will be elected through the branch election process. Branch Chairs also serve on the NEC as full members.

There are four (4) positions to be filled on the NEC for 2026/2027 – NEC members serve a two year term:

Office Bearer: Treasurer
Office Bearer: Secretary
NEC Member: IAIAsa 2027 Conference Chair
NEC Member: Student Representative

The NEC has identified the need to have separate nominations for the various positions:

Office Bearer – Treasurer: Nominees with the required commitment, leadership and passion to take on the role of Treasurer during 2026/2028 term are called for. Relevant experience and/or skills in finance, project management, communication and business development will be advantageous. Please note that the appointed Treasurer will be supported by the IAIAsa operations manager, financial co-ordinator, events co-ordinator, and administrative co-ordinator.
Office Bearer – Secretary: Nominees with the required commitment, leadership and passion to take on the role of Secretary during 2026/2028 term are called for. Relevant experience and/or skills in communication, project management and minute writing will be advantageous.
NEC Member – IAIAsa 2027 Conference Chair: Nominees are called for with the required commitment and experience and/or skills such as conference/event organising, strategic planning, leadership, project management and communication.
NEC Member – Student Representative: Nominees are called for with the required commitment and experience and/or skills such as leadership, event organising and communication. Take note that only registered students can be nominated and must be a registered student during the 2026/2028 period.

Please note that the NEC is supported by the operations manager, administrative co-ordinator, events co-ordinator and financial co-ordinator of IAIAsa. Even though the above portfolios require certain skills or at least an interest the prospective portfolio, this is a voluntary association, and we encourage all members to be actively involved in the growth and development of IAIAsa by serving on the NEC.

According to the IAIAsa Constitution:

A member, prior to election, must be nominated by another member, seconded by a further member and must accept such nomination in writing. Upon acceptance of the nomination (and provided that nominator, seconder and nominee are members in good standing) the member’s name shall be entered onto a ballot sheet and voted for by the members.

Please use the nomination forms below to nominate another member by completing the relevant form and returning it via e-mail (elections@iaiasa.co.za) by close of business (17h00) on Wednesday 19 November 2025 with “NEC Nominations 2026/27” in the subject line. Only paid up IAIAsa members may nominate, second and be nominated. Nominators and seconders should consider a potential nominee’s previous involvement at branch level or national sub-committee level, as well as the requisite skills and experience required for the positions. This information can be requested from the IAIAsa office by contacting operations@iaiasa.co.za or alternatively get hold of one of the current NEC Members and Branch Chairs for more information. Nominations will be checked for validity before ballot papers, together with background information on each nominee, is circulated to members by Friday the 21st of November 2025. Voting via electronic ballot will be undertaken from 21st November to the 3rd of December 2025.

A member elected to serve on the NEC will have the responsibility of conducting the affairs of the Affiliate on behalf of the members, and will be expected to commit to:

the annual Strategic Planning meeting (mandatory in person meeting for all NEC members scheduled to take place the second weekend of March 2026 – exact details to follow),
four zoom meetings during the financial year (2 hours from 4pm to 6pm, or as agreed on),
the annual mid-term planning session (mandatory in person meeting for all NEC members scheduled to take place before or after the annual conference in August 2026), and
will need to commit to an additional three to five hours per month to the development of their portfolio.

It must be noted that Office Bearers (President, Past President, President Elect, Treasurer and Secretary) will have additional management and meeting responsibilities.

Nominees will be notified of the outcome of the ballot by the latest 6th of December 2025. The 2026/2027 NEC will be announced after the Strategic Planning meeting in March 2026.
