In terms of Notice Number 4137 of 1 December 2023, the Minister of Forestry Fisheries and the Environment is consulting on her intention to extend the appointment of the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa as a single registration authority in terms of Section 24H(3) read with Section 24H(6) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998, (Act No. 107 of 1998) for a period of two years.
The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa was appointed as the single registration authority for a period of five years with effect from 8 February 2018 until 7 February 2023, whereafter the period of appointment was extended until 7 February 2024. Since the Department is still in the process of considering options for the long-term regulation of Environmental Assessment Practitioners and determining whether law reform, which is a lengthy process, would be required, the intention is to further extend the period of appointment of EAPASA until 7 February 2026.
Members of the public are invited to submit written comments or inputs within 30 days (by 31 December 2023) after the publication of this notice (1 December 2023) in the Government Gazette
